17th Annual YeeHaw Junction Bluegrass Festival

17th Annual Bluegrass Festival, YeeHaw Junction, FL

Yee haw!  Welcome to the Bluegrass festival!  For one week end in January, a cow pasture in the tiny hamlet of YeeHaw Junction, Florida becomes a busy vacationland for bluegrass fans.  In a huge tent, more than a dozen bands sing old favorites and new tunes for fans young and old.  Surrounding the tent are food vendors and music vendors.  For the hungry, there are such down home favorites as pulled pork sandwiches, barbecued chicken, hillbilly gumbo, fresh corn on the cob, fried green tomatoes, strawberry shortcake, ice cream, fresh lemonade, and sweet tea.  There are banjos, guitars, ukuleles, and mandolins for the musically inclined to buy.  There was even a tent with homemade jellies, pickles, and sauces for sale.  Of course, the focal point was the big tent, with all the music.  Some of the artists performing were North Carolina's Constant Change; Virginia's James King; Tennessee's Boxcars; and Florida's Bluegrass Express.  Constant Change's rendition of "The Orange Blossom Special” was, well, special!  The music was wonderful, the food delicious, and the atmosphere festive.  The audience was enthusiastic!  What more can you want for a week end?  Camping is available on the premises.  The host hotel is Westgate River Ranch Resort, just down the road.  Bring your own lawn chairs.  Admission is $15 on Thursday and Sunday; $30 on Friday and Saturday; and $80 for the weekend.  We had fun!
