Arcadia Pioneer Days – 2010
Arcadia Pioneer Day 2010
Back in the late 1800s, Arcadia, Florida was wild town, with cowboys, saloons, and rowdy Saturday nights. The Pioneer Day Festival remembers that, along with the settlers and farmers who lived in the area, too. It’s a community gathering, with Boy Scouts and church groups manning booths. Local firefighters compete with other firefighters to win the rib cook off. They all taste good! Craftsmen sell their wares, living history demonstrations teach soap making, basketry, butter churning, and weaving. Characters in period dress stroll by. Old engines, tractors, and other farm equipment are on display. Country music plays on the local country station. Ponies carry small children. Florida authors are available for book signing. A shoot out entertains everyone. It’s real family entertainment, and a slice of Florida history. For a mere dollar donation, you can enter and partake of all this and more. This year the festival ran from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
