St. Demetrious Greek Festival, 2010

St. Demetrios Greek Festival, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 2010

Welcome to the Greek Festival!  Opa!  That's a Greek exclamation expressing jubilation, similar to "Yee haw” or "Hooray!”  St. Demetrios parishioners have plenty of Greek food on hand, like mousaka, dolmades, lamb shanks, and souvlakis.  Pastries and Greek coffee, too.  Even ouzo, an anise flavored liquor.  But food isn't the only thing at the festival!  Music, folk dancing, games, carnival rides, and lots of shopping gave us and many others plenty to do.  Items for sale included clothing items, books, icons, Greek groceries, artwork and jewelry. (For those whose favorite color is bright and shiny)  There are tours of the beautiful church if you are so inclined.  The family oriented festival runs Thursday through Sunday in mid February.  Admission is $5, which includes a raffle ticket.  Dinners are about $10, and many a la carte items such as gyros are available.  Everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time.  There is free shuttle service because parking nearby is impossible.  http://stdemetrios.org/
