Pow Wows

POW WOWS

Welcome to the Pow Wow!  The Pow Wow is a symphony of colors – feathers, leather, and cotton- in bright reds, greens, yellows, blues, pinks, and oranges.  The jingle of the bells carries across the grounds.  There is plenty of shopping.  Pottery, baskets, jewelry, toys, music, books, teas, herbs, paintings, and much more will give you an afternoon of fun.  The dancing, though, is the highlight of the Pow Wow.  The music for the men’s and women’s traditional, grass, fancy shawl, and jingle dancing will delight your eye and ear. The circle for the dancers is sacred, and not walked across.   Usually there will be an invitation for the spectators to come in and join the dancers.  It adds to the fun if you participate.  If the activity makes you hungry, fry bread, Indian tacos, and cold drinks are for sale.  Sometimes vendors have Native American soups, buffalo burgers, lavender tea, and other specialties.  Learn about the many native groups who live here.  Learning can be fun!
