FIHA Pow Wow

FIHA Pow Wow 2010

The Florida Indian Hobbyist Association’s Pow Wow is an annual Ft. Pierce event, happily.  Around the Sacred Circle are the vendors and food booths.  Music and colorful regalia create a festive atmosphere. Visitors can browse and buy silver, dream catchers, pottery, craft items, baskets, leather goods, and more.  Foods include fry bread, a staple of Pow Wows, buffalo burgers, Indian tacos, lavender lemonade, sweet potato fries, and hamburgers for the faint of heart.   Entertainment includes storytelling, drumming, dancing, flute playing, and visiting the tipi encampment and Scots blacksmith, living history programs.  Dances include Fancy, Traditional, and Jingle.  Ed WindDancer, our favorite flutist, played in his uniquely beautiful way.  Vendors are usually happy to chat.    There are even princesses!  Pow Wows are an excellent opportunity to enjoy Native American culture, and we especially enjoy this one!  Please respect Pow Wow etiquette:  only enter the circle if invited, allow the dancers to sit on the benches, and no alcohol is allowed.   It runs Friday through Sunday, usually with Grand Entry at 7:00 Friday and Saturday night and 1:00 on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.  Admission is $5 per person.
