Florida Renaissance Festival – 2011
Florida Renaissance Festival – 2011
Huzzah, and welcome to the 2011 Florida Renaissance Faire, good gentles! T’is a day to eat, drink, be merrie, shop, be entertained, play games, and converse with living history re enactors. T’is more than just a days’ worth of fun! Tarry for the week end! It is, after all, the wedding week end of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella’s daughter, Anna Maria! Celebrate! Whatever your fancy be, chances are you will find it here! If your pleasure be shopping, there are bright, shiny earrings, tiaras, bracelets, brooches, faire wear of all kinds, paintings, garden accessories, scented oils, children’s toys, weaponry, and fairies waiting to be adopted. If it is hungry you are, sample smoked turkey legs, gyros, steak on a stake, Greek salad, soft pretzels, ice cream, and one pound cookies. Thirsty? Soft drinks, water, coffee, and plenty of pubs. The Crossroads Pub has Brian, a most entertaining bartender! More into activities? Ax throw, knife toss, and other games of skill. For games, visit the Gaming Glen. Children’s activities include bounce houses, Jacob’s Ladder, the Giant Rocking Horse, face painting, interactive plays, and visits with the fairies! For those who are history buffs, there are the encampments of the East Coast Privateers, Hanseatic League, Paladin Society, and History of Chivalry, among others. Music? The Lost Boys, The Harper and Minstrel, Wolgemut, Rafferty the Piper, and Celtic Mayhem offer a variety of genres. There are other entertainers, too: Tribal Circus’s acrobatics, jokes, and juggling; exciting jousts with gallant and evil knights; the amazing Birds of Prey; the musical Cinderella, featuring the King and Queen themselves; and Lady Ettie’s Tea Time. Stop and pass the time with members of the Court or townsfolk with a “Good morrow”. For purely adult entertainment, go to the Great Hall. This year, the faire has a different layout, which we liked. However, as was pointed out, the “secret short” cuts are gone. So are the privies, being replaced with brand new flushies! Huzzah! The Faire runs for five weekends, each with a different theme. We went on Pirates Weekend, and found that in two days, we still hadn’t seen every show and every booth, so there is more than enough to keep visitors to the shire entertained. Admission for adults is $20, and there are season passes.
