The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire

Welcome to the Renaissance Faire! Hail and well met! The time is 1569, and war with Spain threatens England, as well as Elizabeth’s cousin, Mary, Queen of Scots. The Duke of Norfolk wants to marry Mary and bring peace to England, he claims. Elizabeth is not convinced. A joust will decide! But that will be at the end of the day. Good Queen Bess and her court will enjoy the day at the faire with all her subjects and visitors in the shire of Mt. Hope. Entertainment includes Empty Hats, Sir Isaac Fawlkes, Ceann, The Mud Show, archery demonstrations, the Royal Falconer, and many more. There is shopping for every taste, from books to arms to Renaissance clothing to garden accessories. Games and rides for all will keep everybody entertained. There is even a children’s realm! For food, choose from gyros, brisket, chicken, bangers and mash, Irish nachos, apple dumplings, or chocolate. And more! To quench the thirst, soft drinks, apple cider, Mt. Hope wines and brews, and cold water are available. Items range in price from $2 to $10.50, and all wine and beer was $5.50.  Living history demonstrations such as glass blowing and the apothecary educate in an entertaining way. Games include ax throw, crossbow, and archery. The children will enjoy rides like the crow’s nest or the real elephant.  Rides and games were $2 each.  Join in the fun, and interact with the villagers and the Queen’s court. Sit in the beautiful gardens and soak up the atmosphere.
The faire runs for seven weekends, August 1 – Nov. 11, this year. Each week end is a different theme: our weekend was Heroes of the Realm. Admission is $24.95 for audults, $9.95 for children, ages 5 – 11. Mt. Hope Estate and Winery is located on Lebanon Road in Manheim. Wine tasting and wines are available every day.
