Florida Backroads Adventures
Florida Back Roads Adventures
Welcome to the Florida back roads! If your idea of Florida is Orlando and environs, you’ll be pleasantly surprised! We’ll be visiting small towns, checking out the museums, shopping and sampling a restaurant or two. We’ll be exploring the springs and secluded beaches. Hiking, canoeing, and biking are some of our activities. Maybe we’ll get to a few wine tastings. Come along!
Florida is home to the oldest continuously inhabited European town, the space program, Civil War sites, 667 miles of beaches, largest U. S. lake, and more golf courses than any other state. Our Native Americans are the Seminole. Early natives included the Timucuans and Tequesta. We have a widely diverse population, with people from everywhere in the world. Our highest point is 345 feet above sea level, the lowest high point in the states. Florida has been under the flags of Spain, England, the Confederacy, and the USA. Famous Floridians include Osceola, Carl Hiassen, Dave Barry, Don Sutton, Sydney Poitier, John Gorrie, Ernest Hemmingway, Zora Neale Hurston, Faye Dunaway, and Julia Tuttle.
If you are uncertain about where to begin your back roads trip, try one of these: springs; historic towns; science centers; zoos; wineries; the Cracker Trail; the Great Birding Trail; or US#1.
